3 Children on Christmas Morning
Daughter age 8
It’s only been a few hours
and you come into my room too early
I groan and secretly conceal my excitement
Jumping on the bed
Your small hands and feet plead
Poking and pushing you awaken me
My eyes are still closed yet I am aware
These moments won’t last forever
You will grow up, as will I
But we will never forget this Christmas morning
Daughter age 10
Lovies, snuggies, and stuffies don’t stand a chance in your presence.
Your overwhelming love would muffle them
and subdue all in submission of your all encompassing love.
It is as if your tiny frame cannot contain all the love you feel.
The world would benefit from spending some time with you.
Even the unwrapped boxes are beneficiaries of your embrace.
You don’t even know what the gift is, but you love it even before it is opened.
I have loved you with the same love.
Son age 12
We all have final moments of wonder and belief.
While beginning something new, they invite us to remember.
I too once believed in something and someone.
You are starting to see Santa now.
Santa for who he truly is and not just as we would have hoped him to be
I wonder if he disappoints you?
Whatever gift is given cannot compare to who you are.
